The function of a Blowdown Valve on an Air Compressor is to bleed off air pressure that remains in the system when not required such as upon shutdown. When the rotary screw compressor comes up to pressure and unloads the unit will blowdown the sump pressure, in turn this cuts the amp draw down to about 75%.
