A Minimum Pressure check valve serves two purposes:

A) Upon start-up the MPV allows unit to create sump pressure before allowing air to enter line and

B) the valve checks line air pressure from sump pressure in an unloaded, or off status state. If the MPV malfunctions air may not build in the sump which can result in several possible undesirable situations. The MPV is generally built strong, but they do fail from time to time. In some cases it is preferable, or only possible, to replace the whole valve rather than simply re “kitting” it.
